Service

At MLU, service measurements on the NMR spectrometers are offered. General rules for the use of the NMR devices are summarised in the usage regulations (german version). The prices for the service measurements can also be found below.

The Institute of Chemistry (location NF2C) mainly offers service measurements on request. The service operation covers the structure elucidation of organic molecules as well as multinuclear NMR of inorganic compounds. Two high-field spectrometers (500MHz and 400MHz) and two benchtop instruments (80MHz) are available for the measurements. All common high-resolution 1H- and X-nucleus 1D and 2D characterisation methods are offered, e.g. DEPT/APT, COSY, NOESY, HSQC/HETCOR…
Research at the Institute of Chemistry is performed in the individual research groups; the NMR lab does not conduct own research projects.

Likewise, service measurements can be carried out at the Institute of Biochemistry (location NF1BC). Part of the service operation for high-resolution NMR of small organic and inorganic molecules is covered there. It is mainly used for more time consuming measurements using high-resolution 1H-X (X = 13C, 15N, 31P, 33S, 67Zn, etc.). In addition, highly viscous samples can be measured using the high-resolution magic angle spinning (HR-MAS) NMR system. For this purpose, two high-field spectrometers (700MHz and 400MHz) and a benchtop device (60MHz) are available. Further information on the devices and contact information is available here.
In addition to the service operation, the Institute of Biochemistry conducts its own research on the NMR instruments. Due to the limited sample throughput resulting from the mixed operation, the service offer therefore concentrates on more complex measurement series on selected samples. External collaborations are also possible.

At the Institute of Physics (location NF2P), the NMR instruments are part of the research activities in the Biophysics and NMR groups. No service measurements are offered, but research cooperations are possible and welcome.

Prices

The respective research groups may charge the following costs for access to the NMR spectrometers:

field strengthprice per hourprice per day
800MHz60€1440€
700MHz50€1170€
600MHz40€960€
500MHz30€720€
400MHz30€720€
400MHz (solid state)40€960€
200MHz (solid state)20€480€
Benchtop20€480€

The costs for NMR spectra (500 and 400 MHz) of the Chemistry Department are allocated to the research groups within the university on the basis of the individual costs per measurement as determined by the Chair of the Institute. These currently amount to 1 € within the Institute of Chemistry and 3 € for other research groups at MLU. For longer non-routine measurements, the above-mentioned hourly rate is applied. The benchtop devices in chemistry are used almost exclusively for the purpose of training students; therefore, no costs are estimated.

Research cooperations with external, non-academic partners (industry) are prized individually.
